The UK’s physical game charts have been a bit of a snooze fest for PlayStation fans for a long now, with little movement among the top sellers and a considerable quantity of Nintendo. This week’s top ten is a typical example, with six of the games being exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. Thankfully, several well-known franchises ensure that PS5 and PS4 titles will continue to be available.

Here’s the latest top 10 in full.

FIFA 22 returns to its spot at the very top, for example, with almost half the copies sold being the PS4 version. Similarly, Call of Duty: Vanguard moves up into third place. The PS5 and PS4 versions combined account for 64 percent of the week’s physical sales. Elsewhere, Just Dance 2022 — admittedly not a top seller on Sony’s systems — shimmies up to fifth, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy moves down to eighth. Far Cry 6 was in ninth last week, but has now dropped from the top 10, residing in 12th.

UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 4th December 2021

Call of Duty: Vanguard

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond

Just Dance 2022 Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Minecraft (Switch) Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Mario Party Superstars Pokémon Shining Pearl

It’s still the biggest new launch of the year so far but boxed sales for FIFA 22 are down by over a third on last year. Together with Call Of Duty, FIFA is always one of the most successful games of the year but FIFA 22 physical sales were down by 35% on FIFA 21, which was itself down on 42% over FIFA 20.

That’s likely to mean more people are switching to digital purchases than FIFA is losing its appeal though, even if, as ever in the UK, there are no official figures to clarify either way. The only thing for certain is that 41% of FIFA 22 sales were on PlayStation 4, with 27% on Xbox One, 23% on PlayStation 5, 5% on Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S last with just 4%. The latter’s poor performance is explained by the fact that most Xbox boxes are dual format.

News Summary:

  • FIFA and Call of Duty are two of the most popular video games in the UK. Maintaining the status of PlayStation as one of the top ten topics for discussion.
